Our Story

CVMC traces its beginnings to 1998 when John Sherk experienced a clear prompting from God to begin a new church in his home town of Middlebury. CVMC’s first services were at Orchard View Elementary. The church grew in numbers and soon moved to Hoosier Tai Kwan Do Academy. In September of 2001, the church moved in the current building and began a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club to give them space to open a location in Middlebury.

The Church was formed with a heavy reliance on prayer, and often leadership would go on prayer walks in various areas of the community to ask God to reach those homes for Christ. They focused on reaching young families in the community and providing a place where people who had never been to church, or hadn’t been around church in a long time, could come and feel comfortable. This would be Crystal Valley’s approach to fulfilling the Greatest Commandment and Great Commission given by Jesus Christ to His followers in the Scriptures: Matt 22:36-40 & Matt 28:18-20.

In 2006, Chris Garner replaced John as Crystal Valley’s second pastor. Chris had a strong passion for families, outreach, and reaching the hurting and broken. In March 2014, Chris and his family left CVMC for a call to ministry in Fiji. We honor what Chris accomplished at CVMC and wish him and his family the best in Fiji.

In June 2014, Dave Rowland joined staff as our new lead pastor.

Dave  and his wife Michelle were New Haven High School sweethearts and have now been married 25 years. They have 3 children;  Jonathan (22), Nathaniel (20) & Danielle (16). Dave has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, a Master of Divinity & Master of Theology from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary.

Dave desires to see discipleship made a priority  at Crystal Valley and to grow disciples who make other disciples.
